Schoenoplectus tabernaemonti (C. C. Gmelin) Palla

Habitat: Freshwater of brackish water, shores, marshes
Recognition: Very large, can be 10' tall. Stem round. Leaf blades > 2 cm. Perianth parts 6; spikelets often orangish and spotted. Schoenoplectus californicus also has a predominantly round stem, but S. californicus becomes triangular at the top and has 2-4 perianth parts, and leaf blades < 2 cm or absent.
