Habitat: Freshwater or brackish shores

Recognition: Spikelets pedicellate, lanceolate with pointy tips (vs. S. tabernaemontani with ovate-obtuse spikelets). Perianth parts 2-4 (vs. 6 in S. tabernaemontani), flattened; leaf blades < 2 cm or absent (vs. > 2 cm in S. tabernaemontani); stem round toward the top.
