Recognition: Small and grassy, the culms to 7.5 cm tall. Scales falling at maturity. Perianth bristles absent. Achene translucent with seed visible like an X-ray. This species similar in size to E. baldwinii, the latter having scales 2-ranked and having persistent perianth bristles.
