Eleocharis cellulosa Torrey

Distribution: Southern U.S. to Mesoamerica and the Caribbean

Habitat: Brackish or fresh water

Florida status: Native, occasional in our area

Recognition: Rising to 80 cm and terminating in a spikelet resembling a small cigarette. Resembles the common E. interstincta but E. cellulosa has the culm spongy and not completely septate. Achene bristles smooth (vs. barbed in E. interstincta).
