Habitat: Wet shores, ditches, wet mud

Florida status: Probably native

Recognition: A large, eye-catching sedge of wet habitats. Inflorescence rays each with radiating racemes of yellowish spikelets. These uniquely with a spongy rachilla, this disarticulating and breaking apart into single-achene floating units. Cyperus strigosus can be similar but has flat (vs. round and disarticulating) spikelets.
