Habitat: In our area, common in pinewoods, shores, wood edges, and disturbed sites ranging from wet to mesic

Florida status: Native, common

Recognition: Large species (to 2 m tall) with large, showy, open panicle. Lower glume distinctively long (1.8 mm).

Similar to some Urochloa maxima, but this with rugose (vs. smooth) fertile lemma.
