Florida status: Native, common

Recognition: Blade tightly involute (to 0.3-1 mm wide), pubescent near the collar when not too weather beaten (vs. glabrous in A. gyrans). Awns not contorted, 10-15 mm on central and lateral. Resembles A. purpurascens but A. stricta has roundish, involute leaves, while A. purpurascens has at least some leaves flat (can be involute), often curled. Aristida stricta is pubescent in the throat and collar.
