Eragrostis atrovirens (Desf.) Trin. ex Steud.

Natural range:  Africa.  Adventive range in the U.S. mostly Florida with extensions into other states.

Habitat:   Weedy, often in moist places

Recognition: Usually > 1 m tall (to > 2  m at times), with the inflorescence held aloft on a long bare culm. (The height of the plant and the length of culm, > 30 cm, below the lowest inflorescence branch unique among our species.)   Plants with a pale milky hue when alive.  Pulvini glabrous or nearly so (vs. E. spectabilis but resembling A. pectinacea and E. scaligera in this character).  Disarticulation of the spikelet acropetal.  Glumes subequal (resembling E. spectabilis in this character, but E. spectabilis with the inflorescence not or scarcely separated from the basal leaves, and with long hairs at the pulvini.)   Lemma > 0.6-0.8 mm wide from keel to margin (vs. 0.4-0.6 mm in E. pectinacea).   Florets 10-22 (fewer than E. cumingii, which is a small grass usually < 40 cm tall). Stamens 3.
