Natural range:  Canada, Throughout the U.S. and beyond

Habitat:   Wet disturbed places

Recognition:  Sheaths glabrous. Inflorescences with awns or awnless (or nearly so). Awns variable in length and abundance, when present usually > 6 mm.  Spikelet hairs with pustule bases. Tip of lemma acuminate, coriaceous, without a ring of trichomes.

Florida status:  Native, common
